I am working on "Modelling Multi hazard vulnerability of Himalayan ecosystem". Characterizing the drivers and hazards in the region and establishing the interrelationship among hazards are the main focus of my doctoral research.
Delineation of probable flooded areas using entropy based machine learning algorithm.
Flash flood is a common hazard in mountainous region. The main cause of flash floods are usually heavy rainfall in combination with specific type of geomorphology. This flash flood hazard zone map is generated by applying machine learning techniques on the geomorphological parameters using previous flash flood locations.
The natural hazards frequently recorded in the region are Earthquake, Landslides, Forest fire, flash floods and cloudburst. Other natural hazards prevalent in the region are lightning and extreme temperatures. More economic damage is caused due to flash floods and landslides compared to other hazards.
Forest fires can be detected using satellite images even when the area is covered with smoke by using the SWIR band. In this image RGB colors of the screen are assigned to display SWIR, Green, Blue bands of the satellite image respectively.
